Our events offer exceptionally well-marked, short and long course options, plus a kids 1k, making it accessible for all ages from complete beginners, to seasoned trail enthusiasts.
We aim to promote fitness and wellness by providing an opportunity for the trail running community to come together to experience the island’s natural beauty, and push personal limits in a supportive and safe environment.
We bring together local communities, outdoor enthusiasts, families and seasoned trail runners to celebrate the beauty and challenge of trail running on Vancouver Island. Whether you’re running, volunteering or cheering, we’re grateful you’re here.
Every event raises funds for trail maintenance, youth sport programs and more. We are proud to partner with charities that make a positive impact on our community. Together, we aim to raise awareness and funds for causes close to our hearts while promoting the joy of trail running.
All trails used for the VITRS are pre-existing well-used trails. We don’t create new trails for any of our events. Before each event we meet with the parks crew to go over any sensitive areas near the course and either move the course around these areas or find a way to work around these sensitivities. Messages regarding the sensitive areas of each course are sent out to race participants via email.
Our courses are well-marked with safety flagging tape, pin flags and arrow signs. All flagging and signage are untied and taken down after each event.
Throughout marking the course before the event, during the event, and de-flagging post event, our runners and volunteers remove any garbage around the trail to ensure the trails are left if better condition than we found them. If you find any garbage or debris left over from one of our events, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can assure you, this will be a very rare occurrence.
In our efforts to create less waste, we no longer provide disposable cups at our aid stations or finish line. Please ensure you bring a refillable bottle, bladder or cup with you!
